SNOW? MAYBE

This came out of no where for me. All I have been reading about is our unseasonably warm temperatures and now I see there is a chance for plowable snow next week. WOW! I have been waiting for this but I am trying not to get too excited because a lot can change in a week

Yes, this is a week away. There is talk of us getting some snow on Sunday January 7. By us, I mean southeastern Mass. Here is what I have been able to find so far.

I follow several weather people on twitter and these are some of the tweets from the past 24 hours

After reading these I decided to check out some weather apps. Well they all confirmed a snow storm that needs to be watched for next Sunday January 7, 2024 but they differ on the amounts of snow.
The lowest was weather.com and the highest was tomorrow.io

If you are looking for a snow day to get the day off of school or work then you want the tomorrow.io prediction to come true.

I will continue to follow this storm and provide an update each afternoon.

Unseasonably Warm

Hello everyone, Bad news for all the snow lovers reading this post...The only precipitation in the foreseeable forecast is rain.

The temperatures are just too warm to support snow.

I will continue to monitor the weather and will post again when I have a snow forecast for you. Fingers crossed that it doesn't take too long.

High Winds = power outages likely

A strong coastal storm headed our way will bring lots of rain and wind to Eastern Mass. Be prepared for power outages! Charge all your devices now.

Light rain should start after 4:00 pm today and continue through most of the day tomorrow. Temperatures will be in the upper 50s and low 60s for the next 24 hours. If only it was cold and this was snow! :(

If you don't lose power then it is a good day to stay inside and watch Christmas specials. See the list of Christmas shows at

No White Christmas

Sorry to all the snow lovers out there, we don't have any snow in the upcoming forecast. There will be mild temperatures and the only precipitation will be rain.  Chilly today but then we jump up to 50 degrees for the next 4 to 5 days and after that time the temps will only drop to the upper 40s. Even the low temperatures over night will be 40 degrees.

Sorry everyone, I don't see us having a white Christmas this year.

I'll post again whenever I see a chance for some snow.

Ocean effect Snow

Don't get too excited, this is not a snow storm. I just didn't want anyone to be caught off guard if they see some snow falling on Wednesday. There is a chance we could see some ocean effect snow but it won't amount to anything.

Enjoy the warm temperatures today because the chilly air is on the way. Tuesday has a high of 40 degrees then Wednesday a high of only 34 degrees. That cold air won't stay around for long as we head back to the 50's this weekend.

That's all for now. I wish I had more snow news to share. :(

Northern Lights

Tomorrow night, Thursday November 30th, may be a good chance for some of us to see the northern lights.

If you are north of Boston, be sure to go outside and take a look.

When will we get our first snowfall?

Hello to all my fellow snow lovers out there. It's that time of year when a lot of you start checking this blog to see if we have any white stuff coming out way. There is a chance that northern New Hampshire and Vermont could get a little bit of snow this weekend. That is good news for all the skiers out there. Saturday night into Sunday there will be rain/snow mix depending on your location. North Conway area will probably see snow but places south of that location may get a mixture of rain and snow. It will be too warm here in Eastern Mass for snow.

Then we focus our attention to the following weekend (December 9th and 10th) There is rain coming our way which may turn to snow in many areas. All depends on the track of the storm. Right now it looks like eastern Mass will get mainly rain with a short time of snow mixed in but no accumulation. Of course this could all change as the day gets closer. I will be sure to keep you posted.

All you students and teachers that want a snow day - think SNOW

update as of 9am on 11/30/23...
This weekend storm is changing a little bit. Now more of a Sunday into Monday storm and depending on the track there is a chance for some snow in Massachusetts. I'll keep an eye on it and post again tomorrow with the latest details.

23-24 Winter

Are you ready for some snow? Maybe this is the winter for lots of the white stuff. Most of the articles I have read online are predicting lots of snow for the Northeast. Maybe a few snow days for all those students who want a day off in the winter. Now we wait and see if that really happens.

Here are a few headlines I found in various places online

I will be back to posting on this blog when snow is in the forecast.

Hurricane Lee more out to sea

 Good Morning

It appears that Hurricane Lee will be a category 1 storm when it reaches the Northeast but it will be staying off the coast so as to minimize impact in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The storm will bring winds to our area and some impressive wave action at the coast. The cape should be the only area getting heavy rains from this storm which is a good thing since the ground is saturated from all the rain in the past week.

This will be my last Hurricane Lee update unless something changes with the forecast.

Mother nature out of Control

While I am on the computer checking for updates on Hurricane Lee I am informed of a tornado warning for my area. Eric Fischer on WBZ just stated a strong storm with a tornado possibility was headed to my town in the next 15-20 minutes so I need to make this quick.

Hurricane Lee should stay off shore but Massachusetts will not be spared entirely. We will get some wind and rain on the Eastern side of the state. The storm is still a couple days away so things can change

I'll be back with another update tomorrow but now I need to be prepared for a possible tornado.

Hurricane Lee

I guess I am on the hurricane watch since Hurricane Lee is headed to the northeast.  Yesterday the projected cone included some of Massachusetts.

Today, as of 2:00 pm, the projected path has taken a slight turn to the East bringing it just off the coast.

The storm is still 4 days away and a lot can happen in that time frame. I will continue to watch the weather reports and post here each evening.
Even if the storm does not make landfall in Massachusetts we will still be able to get wind and some rain. The coast will have to watch for flooding.
I may drive up to Hampten Beach, NH and watch the large waves crash onto the road.

I'll be back tomorrow...

Summer is over

I'm back! Since the tropics are getting active and winter is right around the corner, I think it is time to start blogging about the weather.

Hurricane Franklin is heading North, but staying out at Sea. I may head to the shore to catch some wave action. Love it at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire when the waves crash onto the road.

Then there is Hurricane Idalia which is going to be a cat 3 when it hits the western Florida coast. That will cause some major issues for people in Florida. Stay Safe!

We will wait and see if the tropics cause any issues here in the Northeast.

Some meteorologists have started talking abut the winter forecast so I decided to post one of the outlook maps that  I found online.

If this map is true then I may be doing a lot of blogging about upcoming snow storms. Stay tuned...

Taking a break

Most of my posts are done during the winter when there is snow in the forecast. I usually do not blog about your everyday forecast. Since we are past the snow season, or at least I hope we are, I will not be posting much. I will only post if there is some extreme weather forecasted for the southeastern Mass area. Otherwise I will be back when the winter weather has arrived. Enjoy your spring and summer.

Nor'easter

If you live in Eastern Massachusetts and like snow, I have bad news. The higher snowfall amounts are being shifted further north.

The rain change over to snow may not happen at all along the immediate coast. In southern Mass the change over was first predicted to happen around 2pm but now that may be later.

Of course this could all change back to higher snowfall amounts if the colder air arrives earlier. I don't have a lot of confidence in the snow total amounts but I am sure about the high winds. Be prepared for power outages.

Here are some updated snowfall maps.

Tricky Forecast

Good Morning everyone. Are you ready for a powerful Nor'easter?  I have spent the last 2 hours reading and watching everything I could about this storm, Sage, headed our way tonight and I have learnt that March storms are a little bit more complicated in predicting snowfall amounts because we don't have the cold air.

We will be getting a lot of rain and that should turn to snow by late tomorrow afternoon in southeastern Massachusetts. We will also be getting strong winds that will probably cause power outages. These outages could last multiple days so make sure you are ready. Charge all electronic devices today and get gas for your generators and snow blowers.

This is a map put out by the national weather service showing the wind speeds during this long duration storm. 50 mph winds combined with wet heavy snow = power outage

The rain will start tonight around 8pm and should change to snow in southern Massachusetts late tomorrow afternoon. I don't think schools will close in eastern Mass tomorrow (just heavy rain) but possibly on Wednesday,
Here are the latest snowfall maps from this morning. some are the same as yesterday.

I will update this afternoon if anything changes. If all stays the same then there will NOT be any more posts about this storm.

Winter Storm Sage

A Nor'easter is headed our way. That is if you live in New England like I do. We have a winter storm, named Sage, headed our way with heavy rain, snow, and powerful winds. The storm should arrive sometime after the Monday evening commute. The initial precip will be rain for eastern Massachusetts but snow everywhere else. Here is a tweet from Pete Bouchard.

The track of this storm will make a huge difference in snow totals so the confidence level isn't at the highest yet.

At first many meteorologists thought the rain would over power the snow in southeastern Mass but in the past 3 hours hours the trend has changed to now favor a bit more snow. Not all meteorologists have accepted that the colder temps will be here to support snow, as you can see by the varying snow total amounts below.
here all the maps I have so far but I am sure they will change so check back tomorrow late morning when I update again.

In addition to snow this storm brings some strong winds.
Heavy wet snow + strong winds = power outages so make sure the generator is ready and all your devices are fully charged.

Tuesday snow

I am in the process of gathering all the storm information. I will post some time this evening.

What's Next?

I am watching the potential for two storms coming up. One is Saturday which could be rain/snow/ice and then possibly another storm Monday night and all day Tuesday. I'll post again once I have more information. (probably Thursday night)

SNOW tonight

Here are the latest snow total maps. Not a big one. Looks like we will not be getting a big snowstorm this winter.

Snow is expected to start falling around midnight and at some point late tomorrow morning it will change over to a mix of rain and snow in southern New England. Some places it will change to all rain and wash away any snow that accumulated. Be prepared for possible power outages as this storm brings high winds with it.
