I’m keeping an eye on a chance for snow next Thursday and Friday. Too early to give any details. At this point there is just a small chance but since we haven’t had any snow I’m getting excited.

The Wind is coming
Today is the day to get prepared. We have a lot of rain and wind headed our way tonight and all day tomorrow. The wind will be strong so I expect widespread power outages. Make sure you charge all your devices today and get gas for the generators. Watching the news this morning, I saw reports of airlines that are already cancelling flights out of Logan for tomorrow in anticipation of this storm. The good news I have regarding tis storm is that the temperatures will be rising to the mid 50s.
Let's just hope that the power companies are ready so power can be restored in a timely fashion.

NO White Christmas
Every year I hope for a little snow just before Christmas and this year I will be disappointed just like most years. A few days ago I was hopeful as there was a low pressure headed this way, but the path of this low pressure is too far to the west which means warmer temps (50 degrees) so we get rain instead of snow. We will probably get over an inch of rain with this storm that comes in Thursday night and lasts all day Friday.
Sorry that I gave everyone some false hope and excitement for a white Christmas, maybe next year.

Mostly Rain and Wind
Our next storm will begin around midnight Thursday night as rain. There is a slight chance of a mix of rain and snow in my area but that will change to all rain. The rain will continue all day Friday with plenty of wind too. The storm will come to an end Saturday morning as a little light snow that should not amount to anything.
Here are a couple of snow total maps

White Christmas in New England?
Hello all my fellow snow lovers. I apologize for not blogging about the snow we two days ago. Between my trip to Disney World and my kitchen renovation I have been preoccupied. I'm back now and the kitchen is just about done.
The cold weather has finally arrived, not sure I'm happy about that, but if we want snow we need cold temps.
I am watching a storm that is set to arrive here sometime Thursday night and last all day Friday. The exact track is not known yet but it looks like Eastern Mass will be getting all rain and maybe a few flurries as the storm winds down. Western Mass may be in for several inches of snow. Even my friends at UMass Amherst may not be far enough west and may get lots of rain before changing to a little snow.

snow flakes will be falling for some
This is not a post about a big snow storm. Most people reading this blog won't get any snow at all and those of us that see white flakes falling from the sky may not see any of it stick to the ground. However, since this is the first forecast with a little snow involved, I get excited. The snow and rain will start Tuesday night ending Wednesday afternoon and this is a typical radar for 3am Wednesday.

Time to start thinking about the winter
I know that winter is still a couple of months away but so many people read this weather blog for snow updates so I thought I would let you know what a few resources have predicted for the 2022-2023 winter season:
Old Farmers' Almanac states the following
"Massachusetts is poised for a colder, snowier winter than normal, the almanac predicts.
In the almanac’s Atlantic Corridor region, which runs from Boston and Worcester down the coast to Washington, D.C., the forecasters predict a cold and powdery winter."
Farmers' Almanac states
"The Farmers’ Almanac already has its eyes on the winter of 2022 and 2023. On Wednesday, the almanac released a winter forecast that projected Northeast residents could be sent “hibernating” by frigid temperatures. This winter will be a stormy one, the almanac said, especially for the eastern half of the country. For some areas, that may mean a season filled with snow; for others, it could be a mushy, slushy few months."
So the two almanacs predict cold and snow and then you read this report from NOAA which is just the opposite
"The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting a significant chance of a warm winter for Massachusetts this year.
Precipitation is equally as likely to be above average as it is to be below average, according to NOAA’s predictions.
This winter, we will be under La Niña conditions for the third year in a row, NOAA wrote in a news release Thursday.
La Niña is when the waters in the Pacific Ocean around the equator are colder than average. This causes warmer temperatures in the southwest, southeast, and along the Atlantic coast of the U.S., including all the way up to New England."
Accuweather had this in their prediction
"Outside of that region, New England is one of the only areas east of the Rocky Mountains where snowfall could end up being above normal. The snowfall totals will be boosted by a few nor'easters, with January and March bringing the highest chances of powerful coastal snowstorms."
I just wish everyone would be on the same page because these conflicting reports tell us nothing. I guess we just wait for winter and see what it brings. When there is snow in the forecast you can read all about it here.

Hurricane Season
It is Hurricane season!
Will I have anything to blog about this year?
Hurricane season runs June 1st through November 30th. Forecasters are calling for an above average hurricane season in 2022. NOAA says "Ongoing La Niña, above-average Atlantic temperatures set the stage for busy season ahead"

Snowy Mondays
There are two systems heading our way and both should arrive on a Monday.
The first is for this Monday (2/7) and southern Massachusetts will probably get mostly rain but should the storm track shift slightly we could get some snow.
Then there is another possible storm for the following g Monday, Valentines Day. This one looks like more snow.
I will keep you posted as the storms get closer.
